Rediscovered: Metcalfe and Gawsworth

I used to get images from Brian Leno of his recent autograph purchases. I still do, but I used to, too.

Yep, it’s Autograph Hound Saturday once again — this time featuring John Hancocks and holographic scribblings from writer John Metcalfe (for our purposes, horror writer John Metcalfe, The Smoking Leg, etc) and that legendary literary boozehound John Gawsworth, promoter of M. P. Shel, Arthur Machen, and others. Brian sent these pics back in 2024. Kind of blurry, but good enough to get the idea cross.

Here’s Brian with the walk-thru:

Hope you’re not getting tired of me sending you some pictures of the shit I pick up, but here’s the Metcalfe signature.

It’s inscribed to John (Gawsworth) — I think the F/O means Flight Officer. Metcalfe signs as Jack — I believe S/L means Squadron Leader.

From 1953, then Metcalfe more formally signed it again in 1964.

Gawsworth wrote a note on the verso of the mount, about time spent with the Metcalfes at their home in ’53.
